App State Women’s Basketball Hosts Georgia State for Pink Day and Alumni Day on Saturday

The App State women’s basketball team hosts Georgia State for Pink Day and Alumni Day on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Holmes Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink, and the game will stream on ESPN+.
The first 100 students will receive a t-shirt, and App State women’s basketball alumni can register for weekend activities. A postgame autograph session with the team will follow the game.

The Mountaineers led James Madison 26-19 at halftime on Wednesday before falling 60-53. Senior Emma Smith led App State with 13 points and hit 3-of-3 from three-point range, marking her sixth game as the team’s top scorer. Junior Daisia Mitchell grabbed a team-high seven rebounds—her fourth game leading the Mountaineers—and dished out four assists.
App State limited the Dukes to seven offensive rebounds despite James Madison averaging 11.0 offensive boards per game nationally. The Mountaineers also outshot the Dukes from beyond the arc, hitting seven 3-pointers to James Madison’s three.

The Mountaineers rank in the conference’s top five in field goal percentage (42.8%), rebound margin (4.6), assist-to-turnover ratio (0.89), assists per game (14.2), and defensive rebounds per game (25.7). In Sun Belt play, App State ranks third in scoring defense, holding opponents to 64.8 points per game.

App State fell to Georgia State 79-57 in Atlanta on Jan. 17. Smith led with 18 points and six rebounds while hitting two of the Mountaineers’ five 3-pointers. Mitchell led the team with three assists.

Georgia State (9-16, 4-9 SBC) looks to end a five-game losing streak after falling to Marshall 71-56 on Thursday. Junior guard Crystal Henderson leads the Panthers with 16.5 points and 4.0 assists per game, ranking third in the Sun Belt in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.50), points (395), and points per game. Graduate student Morgan Robinson-Nwagwu leads Georgia State with 5.6 rebounds per game.
