Mountaineers Face Big Ten Challenge at Ohio State Tuesday

Fresh off a 2-0 homestand against Carolina University and N.C. Central, Appalachian State men’s basketball travels to Columbus, Ohio, to face Big Ten opponent Ohio State on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Value City Arena. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network Plus.
Historic Opportunity
Tuesday marks the Mountaineers’ lone game against a High-Major opponent in 2025-26 and their third against a Big Ten program under coach Dustin Kerns (Michigan 2019, Wisconsin 2024). App State seeks its first victory over a current Big Ten opponent in nearly 32 years, last defeating Nebraska 91-82 on December 1, 1992, at Varsity Gym in Boone.
Kerns enters with multiple Autonomy Five victories (Auburn, Louisville), trailing only Houston Fancher for most High-Major wins in program history.
The Mountaineers will look for their first win over a current B1G opponent in just under 32 years on Tuesday. App State last beat a B1G opponent on Dec. 1, 1992, when it took down Nebraska 91-82 at Varsity Gym in Boone.
Mountaineers Building Momentum
App State (2-1) enters on a two-game winning streak, including Sunday’s dominant 76-54 victory over N.C. Central. Kasen Jennings led with a career-high 22 points, while Andrin Njock added a career-best 11 points on perfect 4-4 shooting.
The Mountaineers lead the Sun Belt Conference in offensive rebounding (15.3 per game) and fewest turnovers (9.0 per game), while ranking first in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.63). App State has generated 59 second-chance points through three games, accounting for 25.2% of total scoring.
Formidable Challenge
Ohio State (2-0) enters averaging a nation-leading 106 points per game while shooting 64.8% from the field (second nationally). Senior guard Bruce Thornton leads the nation with 32 points per game, including a 38-point performance against Purdue Fort Wayne. Four Buckeyes average over 14 points per game.
Ohio State holds a 2-0 series advantage, including an 80-67 home victory in 2017. The teams also met in the 2000 NCAA Tournament.
App State continues its road swing Sunday at Dartmouth.
